The weeks I spend there were one of the most beautiful in my life. It needed some time to settle in and get used to the living conditions, because they are a little bit basic, but in the end that was even something I really enjoyed (getting away from social media/learning that you don't need actually that much to live. The people there and the other volunteers were very kind and I had a lot of fun there. They really want to show you everything so I experienced a lot. I saw beautiful wildlife (sloths, turtles in turtle season, monkeys...) & flora, went on jungle walks and beautiful boat rides and so on. The volunteer work is various and not too exhausting, but you still feel like making an impact. The staff cooked every day and sometimes even a really good typical caribbean food. So all in all it's a great place and a great experience. Even though it's a bit remote and the way is a bit long, it's definitely worth it. I would recommend bringing a book or some games to play with the others for the rainy days. And make sure to get the kolbi sim card to have internet access (you can get internet, but only at the beach & sometimes it's a bit bad)

I spent three months on this project, and it was an unforgettable, special time — I would almost say the most adventurous of my life. However, one thing is clear: this place is definitely one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. The island is very remote, and even the boat ride to get there is an unforgettable adventure, taking you through Amazon-like river canals, past a massive river mouth where you can spot crocodiles, manatees, and, with a bit of luck, even dolphins. It leads to a small, simple accommodation on the island. You’re surrounded by the sea and beach on one side and jungle and river on the other, making it an ideal place to experience the biodiversity of Costa Rica (crocodiles, sloths, three different species of monkeys, toucans, sea turtles, snakes, and countless bird species). The accommodation is very basic, and internet access is only available on the beach, making it the perfect place to disconnect. Dora cooks delicious food, and it’s always fun to talk to her because she is so humorous and positive. This project is perfect for not only enjoying the natural experience but also chatting with a few local residents and diving into the “Pura Vida” culture of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, while simultaneously improving your Spanish skills.
